How It Works:

Since watching my first TED talk, I knew I wanted to be giving my talk one day. I began preparing. I watched a variety of talks, read books, looked at the advice given online, and incorporated what I’d learned about giving speeches and presentations. I reflected on my life and realized I had ideas worth spreading, but TED is not about spreading the idea, it’s about touching the lives of others through ‘THE’ idea worth spreading. When I finally knew what it was, a friend of mine introduced me to Dr. Dan. As we worked together I realized that through his observing and learning from more than (put the number here) talks, he has figured out how to guide us from sharing something we’re passionate about to how to design our talk so it transforms the heart and mind of the viewer. 

Dan incorporates a variety of mediums as he teaches us, not the least of which is his vast library of stories and examples that bring our lessons to life. His supportive and engaging manner are helpful as he keeps us digging for the nugget that makes our talk ‘THE’ talk. He doesn’t let us settle! A TED talk is different from giving a speech or a presentation. While I found knowing how to do these is helpful, what we learned about how to design and share our message has changed how I now approach them.
